A press conference and public hearing took place in Albany to protect our pollinators and local ecosystem. This bill has been introduced before but deserves a second push to become law. Certain neonicotinoid pesticides (called "neonics") are harmful to birds and bees. Supporters like Citizens Campaign for the Environment's employees wore bee scarves that were black and yellow striped to show support. A similar victory for Suffolk county protecting honeybees could help push this bill into law once and for all. Executive director Adrienne Esposito called out the lack of rules to protect populations from neonicotinoids. She stressed that these chemicals can be harmful to youth and the water they're drinking. Food ingestion of plants sprayed with these harmful chemicals is the most common way of contact. We need to prioritize public health! Protecting the birds and the bees is the first important step.
