Gov. Kathy Hochul announced multiple upcoming renewable energy projects for New York, including three offshore wind projects.
The governor said the projects will mean thousands of jobs and $20 billion in economic development investments across the state.
“Our green energy future is now the green energy present,” said Hochul.
According to a NYSERDA spokesperson, the wind projects are slated for completion by 2030.
Excelsior Wind, one of the three offshore wind projects, will sit more than 20 miles off Long Island’s South Shore. It’s proposed that the underground cable would run from the terminal to the East Garden City substation.
Recently, a similar project was met with resistance in Long Beach.
Citizens Campaign for the Environment’s Executive Director Adrienne Esposito, who supports the renewable energy projects, told News 12 that for the next three windfarms they were “really going to have to do a lot more rigorous community engagement and community education.”
