Adrienne Esposito
Executive Director
Citizens Campaign for the Environment

As executive director and a co-founder of Citizens Campaign for the Environment, Adrienne Esposito has worked on numerous environmental campaigns for more than 35 years.

Esposito, who holds a degree in geology and environmental science from Long Island University, has crafted campaigns to engage the public and key stakeholders on environmental protection issues. These have included upgrading failing sewage treatment systems; protection and filtration of drinking and surface water; remediation of toxic plumes; critical stewardship of land and water; support for large-scale renewable energy projects, including offshore wind farms; reduced pesticide application; and more.

CCE has led the statewide fight to establish drinking water standards with regard to emerging toxic chemicals called PFAS and 1,4 dioxane. CCE’s campaign to limit 1,4 dioxane in common household products resulted in the reformulation of products that are now used throughout North America.

Esposito chairs the statewide Clean Water Coalition, which has galvanized support and successfully advocated for New York State to allocate more than $5 billion to upgrade and modernize sewage treatment facilities and replace antiquated septic systems and cesspools with new innovative alternative systems that treat wastewater. These funds are also used to provide grants to water suppliers to pay for treatment technology of toxic chemicals, thereby protecting public health.

Esposito also founded and manages Wind Works New York, a diverse coalition that disseminates science-based information and educational information on offshore wind, solar power, battery storage and other energy infrastructure needed for the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy throughout New York State.
